When I was commissioned to shoot a series of images for Guernsey Post for a set of stamps to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Florence Nightingale, it sounded like a opportunity to do something that feels quite special.  It was decided that we would shoot a series of hand studies to tell the story of Florence’s life that reflected her proactivity, her compassion for human suffering and her total engagement in everything she did.

Lighting and colour palette was an important consideration to reflect the period and the feel of candle light. Working with hands, is a real challenge as the slightest change in angle and position can make such a difference. Especially when props are not used. However, along with The Potting Shed design agency, we came up with a really dramatic and unique set of stamps.
